Wolverines Comeback Falls Short in OT Loss to Bay Village

The West Geauga Wolverines erased a 21-0 halftime deficit before falling 27-21 on the road at Bay Village in overtime on Friday night.

The Rockets struck first on a 59-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 in the first quarter. Bay Village added a pair of second quarter scores, a 30-yard run and a 12-yard touchdown pass to build the lead to 21-0.

Niko Kless got West Geauga on the board in the third quarter with a four-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7.

In the fourth quarter, Ethan Bartlett broke a 44-yard touchdown run to make it 21-14 with 10:48 to play in the game. Travis Veleba tied the game in the final minute with 43 seconds remaining to force overtime.

The Wolverines had the first possession of overtime but did not score after getting inside the five-yard line. The Rockets scored the game-winning touchdown on a quarterback run around the right side.

Bay outgained West Geauga 378-327 in the game while the Wolverines gained 317 yards on the ground on 67 attempts compared to 307 for the Rockets. West Geauga was 4-for-14 on third down while holding back to 4-of-10.

The Wolverines will start a four-game homestand with a re-match from last year’s playoffs against Streetsboro.
